Christine Wiese took her first Ashtanga yoga class in 2001, and has been enthusiastically practicing ever since. The joy of movement without performance, and of meditation in motion keeps her practicing. She has been fortunate to practice with a wonderful group of teachers who inspire her. She continues the work of deepening her own practice so that what she teaches comes out of her own practice. She believes that consistent practice is the key to realizing all the benefits yoga can bring. Her aim is to help students discover this for themselves and to assist and inspire students during the process.
Gradually devoting more time to this practice has brought many great things into her life, including the opportunity to share this practice in the manner in which it is traditionally taught. She is certified by the Hard and Soft Yoga Institute and a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance.

Student Perspectives: Why Take Classes at Ashtanga-Yoga-Gainesville?
"I come to your classes because I like the Mysore style classes. I like being able to move at my own pace. Even though I'm curious about where others in class are in their practice, the focus is still on my practice and what I need. I like the small group setting that allows for more one on one attention!"
"I like the individualized practice. I can do as much or as little as my body needs to do that day as opposed to bigger, instructor-led classes where everyone does the exact same thing regardless of ability level. I also like the small class size and the adjustments. You can progress when you are working with a teacher to help your body open up, settle deeper into the pose, and align in new ways."
"These classes offer Ashtanga yoga in its traditional form: through patient, guided/Mysore-style teaching and meeting the student wherever they are in the practice...from those students who can't yet reach their toes to those that are working through deep inversions and advanced vinyasas. Christine is able to encourage discipline, while maintaining compassion and a sense of humor."
"Christine teaches in the tradition of Patabhi Jois of Mysore, India, the heart of Ashtanga yoga. We practice the sequence of poses in accordance with our own breath and Christine takes us deeper into the poses with physical adjustments and verbal cues. She has learned many of the physical adjustment methods from her teacher, David Keil, who is extremely knowledgable in human anatomy as it pertains to yoga. Christine teaches with patience, inward focus and positive reinforcement, skills that she has honed for nearly a decade from her practice of Ashtanga yoga."
